16 Sep A Treasured Resource in the Community
Walking into this yellow house in Kirkland, is like walking into a beautiful haven where modern décor meets comfort, and compassion and friendship meets you at the door. Welcome to The West Island Cancer Wellness Center – a place where people living with cancer can go to for support, resources, companionship, and so much more.
The West Island Cancer Wellness Center is a place where people living with cancer can go to for support, resources, companionship, and so much more. Cancer can sometimes be a daunting experience, leaving one feeling overwhelmed and alone. It does not have to be that way. The team at the Wellness Center has made every effort to offer all types of support. Participant and their caregiver can find comfort after meeting with a member of the resource team. Maybe the nurse, the psychologist, or the counselor. Or they can sign up for any one of a long list of classes such as painting, art, cooking, dance, or yoga. If care is what they may be looking for, then the choices range from massage therapy, Reflexology therapy, Reiki, Acupressure, Energy Healing, Sound healing, and so much more. There are group activities or one-on-one options. One thing is for sure, you are bound to find a new friend or two.
Walking into this yellow house in Kirkland, is like walking into a beautiful haven where modern décor meets comfort, and compassion and friendship meets you at the door. So many have been known to walk in with doubts, and fears, and walk out with hope, coping techniques, information, and newfound interests. Even experiencing fun activities, they may never have thought of or considered before. It is a place where people come to be together, to laugh, to journal, to exercise, to share a cup of tea, or just hang out for a little break.
This charitable organization founded by Debbie Magwood has been serving the community (and beyond) since 2009 and exists entirely from donations, fundraisers and time offered by volunteers. From the wonderful staff to all the volunteers, people working together for one common goal, in harmony. A winning combination for all involved.
I have been a proud Reflexology volunteer at the WICWC since 2017, and I just cannot say enough great things about it. I have met so many exceptional people I now call friends. My experience as a volunteer continues to be a very enriching and rewarding one. I am honoured and blessed to be a part of this phenomenal team.
If you or someone you know could use the services offered at the WICWC, or if you are interested in volunteering either as a wellness professional, have some time to spare, or want to make a donation, be sure to visit their website. You will be glad you did!
